Devanagari Drop Caps

Drop caps and decorative initials are typographic elements traditionally associated with Latin scripts. Through this project, I explored what they could look like in Devanagari. The process, which started with calligraphy, helped me develop a deeper understanding of the letterforms and allowed me to delve into the beauty and versatility of Devanagari script.

I explored multiple variations of the letter क (first letter of the Hindi alphabet) to come up with its unique forms and expressions. From this exploration, I selected four distinct forms and expanded them into a complete set of letters. Finally, these letters were further stylised and treated in different ways to create a series of drop caps.
